Tulsa County investigators are trying to find the men who broke into a home, robbed a man, then shot him after he was tied up. The News On 6's crime reporter Lori Fullbright reports when people heard this was a home invasion, many wondered if it was connected to the home invasion over the weekend in Midtown Tulsa. Detectives say the two cases are not related.
They don't believe this one is a random attack at all. They believe the suspects knew the victim and knew he had a large amount of cash.
Investigators say two men in ski masks broke in through the victim's back door. They say the robbers tied up the man and his girlfriend, and then started searching for the cash. When they didn't find enough, they shot the man, 25-year-old Frederick Wilson, and he died. His girlfriend got loose and ran for help.
"Regardless of the circumstances, nobody wants to think somebody can just come into their home and demand money and kill them if they're not complying fast enough or well enough," said Tulsa County Sheriff's Captain John Bowman.
Neighbors say they never knew a thing until officers showed up and started stringing crime scene tape and canvassing for witnesses.
"I went to bed at 11 o'clock and I didn't hear a thing. I looked outside and saw all the police cars. Absolutely didn't hear a single thing," said neighbor Doug Richmond.
Richmond's lived in the neighborhood for 38 years. He and his wife keep their granddaughter every day and says other than a couple of break-ins and a peeping tom once, the area's pretty quiet.
Mark Polk agrees. His family has lived in the area for six years and says, other than his truck getting broken into once, it's low crime. He is somewhat relieved to know the attack wasn't total chance.
"Probably makes me feel safer if it wasn't random. Chances are, not going to come back less they know somebody, because they're only going after people they know," said neighbor Mark Polk.
Frederick Wilson served some time in prison after being convicted of raping a 15-year-old teen in 2001. He and six other men were charged in that case.
The News On 6 spoke with Frederick Wilson's relatives on Tuesday. As you can imagine, they are devastated by his death. They say they are working on setting up a reward fund, so people are more likely to call in with tips about who killed him.
Again, investigators are stressing they don't believe this violent home invasion is connected to a weekend robbery at a home on 23rd street.
