FAIRVIEW, Okla. (AP) -- A highway in northwestern Oklahoma has been reopened after being closed for more than three hours this morning because of a grass fire.
Sheriff's deputies say the blaze in Major County caused authorities to close U.S. Highway 412 a half mile east of its intersection with U.S. Highway 281 because of debris on the roadway.
U.S. 412 is a primary route between the towns of Enid and Woodward.
Earlier, the flames had jumped the highway and smoke had greatly reduced visibility. Firefighters were also battling another grass fire in the county four miles north of Chester.
Temperatures in the area were approaching 70 degrees and winds were gusting to more than 20 mph.
