The controversy continues over anti-gay comments made by State Representative Sally Kern. The group Oklahomans for Equality spoke out against Kern on Thursday. Members of Tulsa's gay community along with representatives from several different faiths united to condemn the Oklahoma City lawmaker's remarks.
"Representative Kern's speech just went over the top. Because words matter, it not only embarrasses us as Oklahomans, but it calls folks who may be predisposed to hateful acts to take action against communities who don't deserve that kind of action," said Rev. Jim Mishler.
Kern said a number of things about homosexuality last week in a speech.
The comment that seemed to draw the most criticism, when she said homosexuality is a bigger threat to our country than terrorism.
She says she's received death threats, but also support from people calling her comments free speech.
Kern says her comments were taken out of context and she will not apologize for expressing her beliefs.
