Broken Arrow Fire Chief Dennis McIntire has announced he will be retiring at the end of June. McIntire joined the fire department in 1979 after spending several years as a teacher at Arrowhead Elementary School in Broken Arrow.
"I was planning on a career in education," says McIntire. "Some of my friends were firefighters and their passion for protecting our citizens was contagious."
The Broken Arrow native received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. During his tenure with the fire department, he served in the role of Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief and Chief since 2004.
"I have no regrets and leave the department in good hands," says McIntire. "With our outstanding staff and quality of service, the Broken Arrow Fire Department is truly one of the best in the country."
McIntire says he looks forward to traveling with his wife and spending time with his grown children.
