The Blue Star Mothers are saving hundreds of thousands of dollars in shipping costs, thanks to a flat-rate from the U.S. Postal Service.
The flat-rate boxes cost $10.95, no matter how heavy the contents.
The Oklahoma Chapter of Blue Star Mothers has sent a total of 24,000 boxes thanks to the help of donations here at home. But, the Blue Star Moms say if they had the discount before, they could have saved up to $225,000, which would have meant about 20,000 more boxes in the hands of soldiers.
"Now, we can send more. Now, we can send more. So that really excites us. All along, we've been doing this for five years, that's always been, obviously, the biggest drawback, the cost of sending the boxes," said Gaye Beatt, a Blue Star Mother.
The new postal rate will start March 3rd.
