A 7th grade basketball team feels a tragic loss. The News On 6 anchor Omar Villafranca reports teammates of Cori Baker will honor her memory this weekend.

Cori Baker's family held a candlelight vigil this week, under the basketball hoop where the teenager loved to play.

Her basketball family is also praying for her. Cori played on a Union 7th grade team. Her coach says she a natural on the court.

"She was really good at poaching. Poaching is when you stay back and watch a playerâ€™s eyes and wait for them to commit on a pass. She was so quick she'd intercept it and go the other way for a layup. She did that quite well,â€ said Coach Kevin Cunningham.

Her coach says Cori was a star on the team. Now, her teammates plan to honor the 13-year-old while playing the game Cori loved.

"Her basketball is pink and white and so the girls decided to wear a pink and white bow tied around their shirt in remembrance of her,â€ said Leianne Colley, one of the team mothers.

Cori Baker wrote a letter to herself before she disappeared. In the note, she said she wanted to be a professional basketball player. Her dream won't come true, but her team will keep the dream and Cori's spirit alive.

"They feel for Cori's parents and they want to do whatever we can to let them know that we loved her and that we care for her,â€ said Coach Kevin Cunningham.

Cori's team, the Crushers, play Saturday morning. They hope to keep their undefeated record intact.
