There was a Brad Pitt sighting at St. Pius Tenth School on Thursday, Carrie Underwood, Garth Brooks and many other famous Oklahomans were also spotted. The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports the fourth grade classes have been studying Oklahoma history, recreating famed Sooners on soda bottles.
Fourth graders from Cecilia Fincher and Debra Oakley's classes at St. Pius gathered to show off their two liter Oklahomans on Thursday.
"We study Oklahoma history as part of our curriculum. This year I tried to correlate it with the centennial birthday," St. Pius fourth grade teacher Debra Oakley said.
So the assignment, select a famous Oklahoman and create him or her out of two liter bottle and a Styrofoam ball.
"We made the hand out of aluminum foil, we made the arms out of aluminum foil, we cover the body with aluminum foil," said one fourth grade student.
It takes lots of foil. There are two classes so sometimes there is duplication, for example two Carrie Underwoods. But the students participating in the project say they’ve learned a little about Oklahomans they did not know before, like Mickey Mantle and Johnny Bench.
All the famous two liter Oklahomans will be on display in the school cafeteria, located at 1717 S. 75th E. Avenue in Tulsa, on statehood day, Friday.
