The city of Glenpool has a new look. Mayor J. Shayne Buchanan unveiled the city's new logo "Creating Opportunity" at Glenpool City Hall Wednesday. Mrs. Oklahoma and city leaders were on hand for the dedication.
“People all across the area are rediscovering Glenpool as the place. As a location for new homes, new business and great opportunities. We felt like the time was right for us to go ahead and update our logo,†Buchanan said.
“Creating Opportunity†was revealed as the city’s new logo.
A recent study shows Glenpool's potential for new business would bring more than $1 billion to the community. The opportunity gap study measures a variety of categories of interest to retailers including full-service restaurants ($51 million) and home furnishing stores ($40 million). The city has already begun to address the gap through new development like the 195,000 sq. ft. upscale exterior prototype Wal-Mart SuperCenter under construction at 121st St. and U.S. Highway 75 in Glenpool.
On Wednesday, Jim Tapp of Tapp Development announced plans for several upscale restaurants to be built in the city. The Santa Fe Cattle Company will be one of the first to open. Other businesses announced Wednesday include two national brand hotels and an 8,000 sq. ft. Hillcrest Utica Park medical clinic.
“Additional retail and restaurant users are interested in the site,†said Tapp.
“We knew we had a market here in Glenpool because we are to the south of Tulsa what Owasso is to the north of Tulsa,†Buchanan said. “We have nearly 50,000 cars a day driving through our city on Highway 75, and we want to offer them – in addition to our residents – new and more convenient choices.â€
An opportunity gap study shows how much money people who live in a given trade area are spending outside that area, and city officials plan to use those statistics to attract new businesses to Glenpool. Local economic development firm Crossroads Communications, LLC, performed the study and created the new logo, “Creating Opportunity.â€
“We think the tagline really reflects who we are,†Buchanan said. “We’re not passively waiting for new things to come; we’re helping to bring new businesses and residents to Glenpool. We view the development process as a vital aspect of creating the community we want to be, and we’re actively pursuing new opportunities.â€
Glenpool’s opportunity gap categories include:
Electronics and appliance stores - $52 million
Building and home center stores - $206 million
Other department stores - $134 million
Grocery stores - $167 million
Health, personal care and pharmacy stores - $57 million
