NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma women's soccer coach Randy Evans resigns, four days after the Sooners completed a 6-10-3 season during which they failed to qualify for the Big 12 Conference tournament.

Evans, the second coach in the program's history, went 78-79-16 in nine seasons at OU after spending six seasons as an assistant at Vanderbilt.

He was named the Big 12's coach of the year following the 2000 season.

The Sooners scored just six goals in 10 conference games this season and 22 goals in 19 games. Twelve of those goals came in OU's first two games of the season.

OU athletic director Joe Castiglione says he had no timetable to hire a new coach but that the search will begin immediately.
