A Tulsa woman is in critical condition after enduring what Tulsa Police are calling a brutal beating. It happened Wednesday afternoon near 9th and Mingo in Tulsa. News On 6 reporter Chris Wright reports police say the victim, a 50-year-old woman, is fighting her life after being beaten in broad daylight right outside of her apartment.
"She was beaten. The whole face, this whole side was cut and black and blue. Her nose was swollen, blood is coming out of her ears," neighbor Carletta Eckwood said.
Carletta Eckwood was the first person to discover the victim in front of her Clarland Arms apartment Wednesday afternoon. Authorities arrived shortly after 3 p.m., and say the woman had suffered severe injuries to her upper body. They believe the beating may have been motivated by drugs.
"In this particular area, there is a bit of crack off and on, so that you know may have some bearing in this," Tulsa Police Sergeant Mike Huff said.
Police do have a person of interest. He is described as a 6’1â€, 150-pound African-American male. He goes by the name 'Blue,' and may be a crack dealer. He was last seen near the apartment complex wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. Carletta Eckwood is not surprised, saying she runs into drug dealers at Clarland Arms all the time.
"I'm praying for her right now, because whoever did this, that's a drug house right there, that's a prostitute house," said Eckwood.
The victim remains in critical condition at a Tulsa Hospital. Her neighbor hopes she pulls through.
"I hope she lives, she's living through this, as far as today, I did what I had to do," neighbor Carletta Eckwood said.
Anyone with information in the beating or on ‘Blue’ is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS.
