CAMP SPEICHER, Iraq (AP) -- Ten tribal leaders who joined forces against al-Qaida have been kidnapped in Baghdad.
The abduction comes even as the top U.S. commander in Iraq says that al-Qaida remains a "very dangerous and very lethal enemy;" even though, its threat has been diminished in several of its former strongholds in Baghdad.
General David Petraeus also told a small group of reporters on Sunday that there's a new threat in Iraq, from criminals who've established what he calls an "almost mafia-like presence" in some areas.
Elsewhere in Iraq, police say eight people are dead and more than two dozen others have been hurt in a suicide car-bomb attack at a bus terminal in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk.
