Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor officially opens the Tulsa Arbor Garden planting season on Saturday. The mayor's program "Up with Trees" encourages families to help green-up the city. Dozens got their hands dirty during the event.

Mayor Taylor planted trees for her five grandchildren near 12th and Mingo. She hopes more people will join her.

“People can always plant trees for people's birthdays, in honor of loved ones, in honor of important events in their lives. They give to that person, but they give to our community for decades to come,” said Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor.

The land at the new park used to be filled with flooded homes. Those houses were removed to make way for the park and storm water management.
