TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Sam Brownback has formally bowed out of the 2008 presidential race.
The Kansas senator's effort had been suffering from a lack of money. His campaign had also failed to gain a strong national following.

Senator Sam Brownback is expected to run for Kansas governor when his second term expires in 2010. He has said he won't run for the Senate again.
