DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) _ A man facing child abuse charges used a combination of over-the-counter pain medication and carbon monoxide gas from his pickup truck to kill his new wife, his 9-year-old son and himself, authorities said Wednesday.

A suicide note left by Oliver Wayne Braman, 46, indicated that his wife, Nancy Elaine Kaczor-Braman, was a ``willing'' participant, Montcalm County sheriff's Detective Lt. Joe Patino said. The note is believed to have been written Sunday, he said.

Kaczor-Braman and Braman's son, Nicholas Elmer Braman, were given a large amount of Tylenol PM sometime Sunday before Braman used duct tape to attach a hose from his extended cab pickup to a dryer vent, Patino said. The vent led to a bedroom where the family slept on a mattress.

Witnesses arriving Tuesday at the home about 55 miles northwest of Grand Rapids turned off the truck.

``We had to air the house out before going in,'' Patino said.

Braman pleaded guilty last month to a charge of felony child abuse after authorities said he used an electric cattle prod on two teenage sons. He failed to appear in court on Monday in connection with the child abuse charge.

Braman was arrested Sept. 4 after his ex-wife filed the child abuse complaint. The two teenage sons had been sent to live with their mother in Saginaw after the complaint was filed, Patino said.

Kaczor-Braman, 43, and Braman were married in early September, he said.
