OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma City police are investigating whether there was any negligence on the part of the parents of a 2-year-old boy who accidentally shot himself in the foot. The boy, whom police didn't identify, was in good condition at an Edmond hospital Tuesday.
According to officers, the child's mother told them the boy wandered into his parents' bedroom and opened a box next to a bed where he found the loaded .45-caliber pistol.
Sergeant Paco Balderrama says there was no one in the room when the shooting occurred, so it's not clear if the boy squeezed the trigger or if he dropped the gun.
He says the physical evidence at the scene is consistent with the mother's version of the events.
But police haven't arrested either parent.
A grandparent who wouldn't identify himself says the boy has a hole through his foot but will survive.
