HOBART, Okla. (AP) -- A grand jury in Kiowa County is not issuing any indictments after investigating allegations an 8-year-old girl was sexually abused and state and local officials did nothing to stop it. The girl's grandmother who called for the grand jury investigation says she's shocked and devastated.
The grand jury issued a statement saying there isn't enough evidence to support an indictment. The statement also says there is no evidence showing willful or corrupt conduct or malfeasance by any state or local officials.
Kiowa County District Attorney John Wampler has said the allegations arose during a bitter divorce and custody dispute. He says the allegations were investigated by both his office and by another district attorney and both declined to file charges.
