EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- A book that chronicles the 117 year history of the University of Central Oklahoma will be unveiled on Friday on the school's Edmond campus.

UCO assistant history professor Patricia Loughlin and historian Bob Burke wrote the book, entitled "Building Traditions: A History of the University of Central Oklahoma."

What is now UCO started before statehood in 1890 as the Territorial Normal School, and later went by the names Central State Teachers College, Central State College and Central State University before the name "University of Central Oklahoma" was adopted in the early 1990s.

Loughlin's students contributed to the book, recording audio and video of people who helped shape the history of UCO.

Those interviews will be available online on the UCO library website by November, in time for the state's centennial.
