MIAMI (AP) _ A new tropical storm has formed in the Atlantic ocean.

Ingrid becomes the ninth storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Hurricane Center says the storm's center is about 840 miles east of the Lesser Antilles and is moving toward the west-northwest at 6 miles per hour.

Maximum sustained winds are near 40 miles per hour, and tropical storm force winds are extending up to 50 miles out from the Ingrid's center.
