Bomb Explodes At School In Kansas

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) -- A suspicious device exploded Thursday morning at an alternative high school in Leavenworth.

The explosion at North Broadway Education Center caused no injuries.

Leavenworth police Major Patrick Kitchens says the device went off while technicians were trying to dismantle it. It caused minor damage to an office area.

Students were sent to David Brewer Elementary School, where they were allowed to arrange rides home.

Friday’s classes have been canceled. The school serves about 100 students, providing diploma completion and credit recovery programs.

Edwards did not know how many students were in the building at the time of the explosion.

A school district spokesperson says its not known how many students were in the building at the time.
