AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A manhunt for a gunman suspected of leaving a trail of six bodies as he made his way from Texas to New York ended after a brief standoff.
Paul Devoe III, 43, who had a handgun with him, surrendered to authorities Monday in Shirley, N.Y. No one was injured during the arrest.
Devoe was charged in the death of Paula Griffith, an ex-girlfriend and one of four people found Sunday shot to death in a home near Austin.
Detectives also found the bodies of Griffith's 15-year-old daughter; 17-year-old Danielle Hensley; and Griffith's boyfriend, 48-year-old Jay Feltner, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.
Jonathon Griffith, of San Antonio, identified the 15-year-old victim as his sister, Haylie Marie Faulkner, the Austin American-Statesman reported.
Devoe also was charged with murder in the slaying of a bartender in Marble Falls, Texas, on Friday and on a federal charge of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Hector Gomez said.
He was to be arraigned in New York on Tuesday.
``I am thankful for the quick and dedicated response by the law enforcement community in taking Devoe in to custody before he was able to commit even more heinous crimes,'' LaFayette Collins, U.S. marshal for the western district of Texas, said in a statement.
A vehicle found in the New York driveway where Devoe was arrested had Pennsylvania license plates, and a trace on those plates led to an elderly woman in Greencastle, Pa., who was found shot once in the head, according to the marshals.
Pennsylvania State Trooper Edward S. Asbury said Betty Jane Dehart, 81, of Greencastle, Pa., was found dead and an autopsy was to be performed Tuesday.
A vehicle found at the Pennsylvania murder scene was registered to one of the four victims at the Texas home, authorities said.
Before his arrest, Devoe is alleged to have called his mother in New York state using a cell phone that belonged to Feltner and told her he had killed five people, the affidavit said.
Larry Faulker, Paula Griffith's former common-law husband, told authorities that Devoe dated Griffith two years ago for about three months.

Outside the Austin-area home, located in a cedar tree-covered rural subdivision close to Jonestown, saddened neighbors waited for confirmation on who was slain Monday.
``It's unnerving and scary,'' said neighbor Brenda Sies, 50, who lives near the house but said she didn't see or hear anything unusual over the weekend. ``Everybody is very sad and worried that a murder can take place when we're within a couple of hundred feet.''
