EDMOND, Okla. (AP) -- An Edmond man has been arrested for first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend's 5-year-old son earlier this month.

Edmond police say Marcus Clancy was arrested in Logan County Friday afternoon for the August 12th death of Declan Stewart.

Declan died of head injuries that his mother â€“ Janet Stewart -- said were caused when he fell from a closet and hit his head on a bed rail. But police say the head injury is not consistent with such a fall and the boy had internal injuries that are consistent with abuse.

Janet Stewart told police she left Declan with Clancy while she and her daughter went to a store and that Clancy was the only adult in the home when the boy was injured.
