OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A hearing is under way in federal court to determine whether out-of-state circulators can be used in a group's efforts to get a term limits proposal on the ballot.
Yes on Term Limits Incorporated is seeking an injunction to block a state law banning the use of non-residents when circulating petitions.
The group's vice president, Robert Murphy, told U.S. District Judge Tim Leonard that professional signature gatherers are necessary to get the term limit proposal before state voters.
The group has filed a proposed constitutional amendment to place two-term limits on the lieutenant governor, state auditor and inspector, attorney general, state treasurer, labor commissioner and superintendent of public instruction.
Murphy said the group needs to amass 180,000 signatures in less than 90 days.
The hearing is expected to continue Tuesday.
