OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- After six straight days under a heat alert issued by the Emergency Medical Services Authority, Oklahoma City residents are finally getting a break. EMSA was expected to lift the alert at midnight after remnants of Tropical Storm Erin brought rain showers and cooler temperatures to Oklahoma.
When EMSA responds to five or more heat-related medical calls in a 24-hour period and dangerously hot weather and humidity are expected to continue, EMSA issues a heat alert for the following day.
EMSA paramedics had responded to only one call Saturday morning -- a 53-year-old man who fainted while running a five-kilometer road race.
