AUSTIN (AP) -- Texas freshman defensive tackle Andre Jones has posted bail and been released from jail after his arrest on a felony robbery charge.

Jones faces a charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon after a home invasion in an Austin apartment last month and had been held on $40,000 bond until he was released Tuesday. His attorney, Ariel Payan, said Jones is a victim of mistaken identity
and was not at the apartment.

Jones has given him names of people who should be able to verify his whereabouts when the crime took place, Payan said.

"Once we can do that, we'll present it to the (prosecutors) to get this case resolved," Payan said. He declined to provide details.

"He doesn't understand how he's been charged with something that serious when he wasn't anywhere near" the apartment, Payan said.

Payan did not immediately return a telephone message left at his office by The Associated Press.

Jones has been suspended indefinitely from the team by coach Mack Brown. Also charged in the robbery is former Texas defensive back Robert Joseph, who was dismissed from the team after his arrest on a separate burglary charge in June.
