OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma is the winner in a national online contest to donate 50,000 books to kids. First Book is a national, nonprofit literacy organization. The group conducted the competition in June and July. Members of the public were allowed to vote once daily for the state they wanted to receive the books.

First Book officials say Oklahoma got about 34,000 votes of the 133,000 cast.

Dorling-Kindersley publishers donated 50,000 new volumes. Oklahoma organizations with literacy programs throughout the state have applied to distribute some of the books.

In second place was Nebraska, with 5,000 fewer votes than Oklahoma.

The contest marked First Book's 15th anniversary of operation and its 50 millionth book donation.
