HOBART, Okla. (AP) -- Thunderstorms dropped heavy rain on western and southern Oklahoma on Wednesday, causing some flash flooding, authorities said.
A flash flood warning was issued for Kiowa County after an estimated 2 to 4 inches of rain fell quickly in southwestern Oklahoma.
"There were some sections of (Oklahoma) Highway 54 that are flooded. There had been a report of a vehicle stranded in the middle of one of the roads, but our deputies couldn't find anyone," said a Kiowa County dispatcher who didn't want to be identified.
There were no reports of injury or road closures, the dispatcher said. Pauls Valley in Garvin County also received nearly 3 inches of rain in a little more than an hour. Police received one report of a car stalled in floodwaters.
Motorists along I-35 were unable to see because of the rain and their vehicles sank in the mud when they pulled off the roadway, police said.
The strong storm that moved through the area also caused power outages -- 1,447 customers at one point -- around Pauls Valley, according to Oklahoma Gas and Electric Co.
