OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The president of the PGA's Champions Tour says the organization for golfers 50 and over could be returning to Oklahoma City. Tour President Rick George says officials would like to establish a tour stop in Oklahoma City after several previous visits to the Sooner State met with a warm reception.
The proposed tour stop would be in June at Gaillardia Country Club in northwest Oklahoma City. Local touring pro Doug Tewell is trying to find a title sponsor willing to make a three-year commitment to the event.
George says that the tour asks its title sponsors to pledge $2.5 million to $3 million toward an event.
The Champions Tour last visited Oklahoma last year when Oak Tree Golf Club in Edmond hosted the Senior PGA Championship.
The seniors' tour had a stop at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club in northwest Oklahoma City from 1987 to 1990. Oklahoma City also hosted the Senior Tour Championship at Gaillardia in 2001 and 2002.
