Family Disagrees With Report On Fatal Plane Crash

It's been a tough year for one Tulsa boy. A plane crash killed his grandfather and nearly took his life. Twelve year old Beau Hall has had 20 surgeries and more are likely, and now the NTSB says it knows what happened that day. But as News On 6 anchor Latoya Silmon reports, not everyone agrees with the report.

What happened July 2, 2006 changed one family forever.

â€œI was in disbelief,â€ said Beauâ€™s mother Molly Hall.

Molly Hall's dad and son were flying over Owasso when suddenly they landed in a neighborhood.

â€œMy Grandpa got out and he checked everything, and it was fine so we took off and we went and we clipped the power line,â€ 12-year-old plane crash survivor Beau Hall said.

That's when the plane nosedived. The crash killed Dr. William Barnes, and left his grandson Beau clinging to life.

â€œI had burns on the right side, and the left side was skin graphs and broken bones,â€ Beau said.

The NTSB says it knows more about what happened that day. It says Dr. Barnes mistakenly landed his single-engine plane in a residential neighborhood, but his daughter says that's not true.

â€œHe was a very experienced pilot,â€ said Molly Hall. â€œHe had been flying since 1971. He had planes in the past parked at the airport in Owasso and he knew where he was going. If you knew my dad he was a very cautious pilot.â€

She says a frozen carburetor forced her father to land.

â€œI know that's what happened, and it's just when he took off again he clipped a power line and nosedived into the ground, but he never would have put Beau in any kind of danger if he thought there was any danger,â€ she said.

Hall says thereâ€™s no sense in fighting the NTSB report, instead she's putting her energy into Beau. Despite 20 surgeries, and more on the way, energy is no problem for him. Like any other boy he's energetic and optimistic.

â€œGod has a plan for him. We just don't know what it is,â€ Beauâ€™s mother Molly Hall said. â€œHe's going to do good things. I know he will.â€

Beau dreams of playing baseball, but his legs are giving him problems. He might do well as a comedian, he certainly made me laugh. At the end of our interview I asked him if there was anything else he wanted to add, and he wanted to give shout outs to his teachers and friends.
