With all the rain we've received so far this summer, mosquitoes are a huge problem. Oklahoma recently confirmed our first case of West Nile in the state. A growing number of homeowners are turning to automatic mosquito spraying systems for their homes.

Jim Cain is trying to keep up with demand for the automatic mosquito misting systems he installs.

"The mosquitoes have been horrible, with all the rain we've had, we've been getting calls left and right,â€ Cain said.

Calls for the misting systems are up 200 to 300% over a normal year as folks cope with the onslaught of mosquitoes.

"The system consists of the timer, a reservoir, tubing and a set of nozzles. We use a pyrethrum based product and the nozzles run around the perimeter of the house,â€ said Cain.

Each nozzle provides about 12 feet of protection. The nylon tubing and nozzles are placed around gutters, on fences, just about anywhere you don't want mosquitoes.

While much of the work on the automatic mosquito misting systems is done to fit them to existing homes, a growing trend is to include them in new construction. It's a nice added feature for home builders, which is attractive to buyers, especially in areas where mosquitoes are a big nuisance.

Which this year seems to be just about everywhere. But spraying for about 30 seconds, four to six times a day will wipe out most mosquitoes and will prevent the bugs from making the summer a bummer.

"With the West Nile scare, people are just starting to look for more ways of giving themselves and their families more protection,â€ Cain said.

Cain says the misting systems can go around pools, in trees, you name it. The systems usually start out at about $1,200.
