CARNOUSTIE, Scotland (AP) _ The second round of the British Open is under way in Carnoustie, Scotland, with four golfers with Oklahoma ties in the field.
Former Oklahoma State Cowboy Scott Verplank of Edmond shot 1-over Friday and is 3-over for the tournament and appears to have made the cut.
Fellow former OSU golfer Charles Howell III shot 5-over, 76 Friday and is 7-over for the tournament and he appears to have missed the cut.
Former Cowboy Hunter Mahan was at 2- over through 17 holes.
Former Oklahoma Sooner and British Open champ Todd Hamilton shot 1-over Friday but is likely heading home after a 10-over Thursday leaves him at 11-over for the tournament.
First-round leader Sergio Garcia shot even-par Friday and remains in the lead at 6-under.
