SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) _ A Savannah woman driving a sport-utility vehicle struck and killed her 20-month-old daughter Thursday as she left home to go to work.

Police said the Kyla Grimes apparently dashed from the family's house and ran toward her mother's Isuzu Ascension as 39-year-old Kim Smith drove away to return to work at 12:30 p.m.

Smith told police she felt a bump, but didn't know she had hit her daughter until she pulled into the road and saw the toddler in her rear-view mirror.

Paramedics rushed Kyla to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Savannah-Chatham County police said the case will be sent to the district attorney after officers finish investigating.

Sergeant Mike Wilson, a police spokesman, said the death appeared to be ``a tragic, bizarre accident.'' Wilson said Smith was returning to work, and leaving the child home with her father.
