OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A cashier at the Oklahoma Tax Commission is out on bail after being arrested during an embezzlement investigation, authorities said. Mark Myers, a spokesman for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office, said Tuesday the employee was booked on an embezzlement complaint and released on $2,000 bond late last week.
Formal charges had not been filed early Tuesday, but an investigation was ongoing.
The money was discovered missing during a routine state audit, said Paula Ross, a spokeswoman for the Tax Commission.
Ross said internal auditors confirmed what the state auditor found but she did not have a figure yet on how much money was missing.
She identified the woman as Pebbles Clayton, 34.
Ross said when the missing money was verified, a security officer interviewed the employee. The woman was arrested by an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, Myers said.
Ross said Clayton had been an employee of the Tax Commission since 2001.
