CANTERBURY, England (AP) -- Australian Robbie McEwen has won the first stage of the Tour de France.

The sprint star won despite hurting his wrist in a crash late in the ride from London across the English countryside. He was timed in four hours, 39 minutes and one second and was followed by Norway's Thor Hushovd and Belgium's Tom Boonen.

Switzerland's Fabien Cancellara keeps the overall leader's yellow jersey a day after winning the time-trial prologue in London.
