CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) _ Rich Rodriguez will not be making a smooth transition from West Virginia to Michigan. At least not financially.

West Virginia University's Board of Governors is suing its former football coach to collect a $4-million buyout of his contract with the school. The lawsuit states the university believes Rodriguez doesn't intend to abide by the contract.

The buyout clause requires Rodriguez to pay $4-million to the school over a two-year period, with one-third of the total due 30 days after his employment ends. His resignation was effective December 19th.

Rodriguez went to the Wolverines after seven seasons in Morgantown, where he led the Mountaineers to four Big East championships and a 60-26 record.

West Virginia plays Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl next week.
