Hundreds of homes in West Tulsa spent part of Christmas Eve in the dark. Not from the ice storm, but from a speeding, out of control motorist. Tulsa police say a car plowed into a power pole in the 3100 block of Southwest Boulevard. The result was more than 1,300 homes and businesses left without electricity.
The driver was doing at least 80 mph when he lost control on a turn and his rear passenger side hit the power pole snapping it into three pieces. The car flipped five times, bounced off a chain link fence and skipped over a fire hydrant coming to rest on its top. The driver was standing near the car when emergency crews arrived. He was complaining of hip and abdominal pain. EMSA transported him for further evaluation.
PSO officials have since repaired the line. Authorities believe the driver was under the influence of drugs.
