OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Unemployment is up in two-thirds of Oklahoma's counties for October. The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission reported Tuesday that McCurtain County in southeast Oklahoma had the highest unemployment rate in October at 6.5 %. That is an increase of a little more than one percent since October 2006, but a decline of .4 % from September.
Beckham County in far western Oklahoma has the state's lowest unemployment rate at 2.8 %.
Statewide, Oklahoma's unemployment rate grew slightly in October, increasing to 4.2 %. That is an increase of .1 % from September and a .6 % increase from the same time last year.
In the seven-state region that includes Oklahoma, Missouri reported the highest unemployment rate in October at 5.2 %, with New Mexico having the lowest rate at 2.8 %.
