OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The Oklahoma Lake Patrol is warning cold weather sportsmen of the dangers of boating during the cold winter months. Captain George Green says there are fewer boaters on the state's lakes during cold weather to provide help in case of an emergency.
He also says boaters should wear clothing in layers and avoid cotton because it provides little insulation when wet.
Boaters should also carry high energy foods and snacks plus warm drinks while avoiding alcohol.
Green also says an emergency kit with dry clothes, a waterproof lighter or matches and a flashlight is recommended in case a boater is stranded because of an accident.
