NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ With the status of Oklahoma starting quarterback Sam Bradford uncertain for Saturday's Bedlam game against Oklahoma State, the Sooners' backup signal callers are getting more snaps in practice.
Coach Bob Stoops says Bradford went through about three-quarters of practice last night, and he expected team doctors to know within the next couple of days whether the quarterback would be able to play Saturday. Stoops says he wouldn't hide the decision and would announce it ``if I know one way or the other.''
Backup Joey Halzle threw for 291 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in relief of Bradford against Texas Tech, and he's getting the bulk of snaps in practice.
But freshman Keith Nichol also is receiving extra work in practice in case he's needed against Oklahoma State.
Stoops and offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson both say Halzle was given the nod Saturday when Bradford was injured because he had a better grasp of the offense and received more repetitions in practice.
