NEW YORK (AP) -- The evergreen Christmas tree in New York's Rockefeller Center will be a bit "greener" this year. Energy-saving lights are replacing the tree's old-fashioned bulbs.

The move is expected to save more than 2,200 kilowatt hours a day. That's the amount of energy used in a typical 2,000-square-foot house in a month.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg hopes the tree will inspire New Yorkers to "make greener choices in their own lives."

The 84-foot-tall Norway Spruce will be lit in a ceremony next week.
