NEW YORK (AP) _ Philadelphia's Gold Glove shortstop Jimmy Rollins beat out Colorado outfielder Matt Holliday in the balloting for the 2007 National League MVP award.

The 28-year-old Rollins batted .296 with 34 homers, 94 RBIs and 41 steals from the leadoff spot. He was named first on half of the 32 ballots cast by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. His 353 points are just 17 more than Holliday. Rollins offensive production and slick fielding helped the Phillies capture their first post-season berth in 14 years.

Holliday, who led the league with his .340 batting average and 137 RBIs, received 11 first-place mentions. He was a big part of a late regular-season surge that carried the Rockies into the playoffs.

Milwaukee's Prince Fielder received the remaining five first-place votes and totaled 284 points. He led the league in home runs with 50 while collecting 119 RBIs.
