When we saw him last, our friend and News on 6 Chief Meteorologist Jim Giles was struggling to make it through his weathercast, trying hard to catch his breath.

That was about a month ago, and Jim thought he had a bad case of hay fever. Well, it was worse than that. Jim was actually experiencing congestive heart failure and an irregular heart rhythm.

After some touch-and-go early days, he's rebounded to where he's back on his Okmulgee County ranch. He still has to take it easy, but thinks he might be able to make it back here by the end of October.

“ Whatever they did seems to have worked very, very well, we're kind of on hold, wait and see, it's only been two weeks since I've been out of that and everything is working out very, very nicely.”

Jim's also got a heart defibrillator implanted just below the skin of his upper chest now. He likes to boast that it's just like the one Vice President Cheney has; only Jim's is a newer, upgraded model.
