OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry has proclaimed September as National Preparedness Month.

The proclamation is part of a nationwide campaign coordinated by the US Department of Homeland Security.

Henry says there are simple steps every Oklahoman can take to be prepared for a potential terrorist attack. He says those precautions are similar to being prepared for the severe weather that Oklahomans face every year.

The governor says Oklahoma is ahead of most states in its homeland security program and has set a standard for how to respond to crisis during the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing that claimed 168 lives.
