BOSTON (AP) _ The Boston Red Sox won their tenth straight 2-0 over the Texas Rangers and have pulled within two and a-half games of the A-L East-leading New York Yankees.
Pedro Martinez tossed four-hit ball over seven innings while Manny Ramirez and Bill Mueller (MIHL'-ur) homered for Boston, which is enjoying its longest winning streak in nine years.
The Red Sox have won 16 of 27 and 22 of 26 and have not been this close to first place since June 12th.
Martinez is 15-and-5, while the loss went to John Wasdin who is 2-and-3. Keith Foulke (fohlk) pitched the ninth for his 27th save.
