Oklahoma City pilot in deadly crash had checkered flight history

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Federal regulators were trying to suspend the pilot license of an Oklahoma City man who died in a plane crash with five other Oklahomans last month near Austin, Texas.

Records obtained by The Oklahoman newspaper show Richard Allen Fisher had two crash landings and had a history of running illegal charter businesses.

The records also point to a 2003 flight in which passengers say Fisher nearly struck a Colorado mountain.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman John Clabes says the agency filed an order suspending Fisher's pilot's license for 240 days. He says Fisher was allowed to fly pending an appeal he filed.

The August 3rd crash killed Fisher, an Edmond couple and their two children and an Arcadia man.
