Some Stillwater church leaders are protesting a band invited to perform at this year's Oklahoma State University’s Orange Peel celebration.
Protesters say the name Incubus means a "male demon believed to have sexual relations with womenâ€. Some of the band's lyrics are laced with profanity, and drug abuse. Event organizers say the group is popular among students. They never meant for the event to be controversial.
Protester John Dickey: "i believe bringing in this band incubus is not bringing in first class entertainment to this community.''
Event organizer Scott Cravens: "Orange Peel did not select Incubus as a statement about beliefs. We selected Incubus about what we thought would be entertainment to students."
The band's web site says the Latin meaning of the name Incubus is "nightmare", and they picked it as their name because it sounded cool.
Orange Peel is Friday, September 10th and benefits the Make-a-Wish foundation.
