20-year-old Billy Perkins is behind bars after leading authorities on a chase that started in Tulsa and ended near the Kansas border late Monday.
Tulsa Police say they tried to stop a car just before 10 PM Monday for a stolen tag. Officers say Perkins took off toward I-244 and eventually toward Bartlesville. Police ended up calling in a helicopter for the long pursuit.
The suspect told authorities he had good reason not to stop. Tulsa Police Capt Nick Hondros: “For the majority of the chase we had contact with the suspect on the phone. He stated he was an ex-convict and he wasn't going back to prison.â€
Authorities say the chase stayed at relatively low speeds, which made it easy for Perkins to avoid stop sticks. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers were able to stop the car about 8 miles south of the Kansas line.
Perkins faces charges of eluding an officer and having a stolen vehicle.
