Ceremonies held to mark the death of Will Rogers

69 years ago Sunday, Oklahoma lost its favorite son in an Alaska plane crash. Sunday afternoon, family and fans of Will Rogers took part in a wreath laying ceremony at the Will Rogers Museum in Claremore.

The ceremony honored the life and legacy of a legendary humorist, author and actor who was loved and respected by many. General Jack Merritt (Ret), US Army: "He was accepted in the courts of kings and queens. He was courted by presidents and prime ministers, and yet he never never lost the common touch that came right here, right out of Oologah and Claremore Oklahoma.â€

Sunday morning, there was a fly-in at Rogers Ranch near Oologah, to mark the deadly August 15th, 1935-crash in Point Barrow, Alaska that also killed Wiley Post.

Both the Rogers ranch and museum are open to the public 365-days a year.
