The Baptist Convention of Oklahoma called on the state's 1,700 Southern Baptist Churches to sign an anti-gambling petition and many Baptists answered.
Parishioners at the First Baptist Church in downtown Tulsa signed the petition. They want to bring a gaming bill, Senate Bill 553, to a vote of the people.
Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry says the bill is designed to save Oklahoma's horse industry and boost education. But Baptist opponents say it goes against biblical principals and would hurt more people than it would help.
