Investigators in Sallisaw are looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed a historic landmark. The fire broke out around 1 AM Wednesday in the back two wings of the old high school, and then it spread to the front.
It took firefighters hours to put out the fire. Only the facade of the front rotunda was saved. No one was injured and no other buildings were damaged. The old high school was built in 1940 and was on the National Register of Historic Places.
A group had raised thousands of dollars and was in the process of renovating the building into a community center.
