(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Voters will be asked to reduce the penalty for cockfighting from a felony to a misdemeanor under a bill passed by the state Senate today.
Cockfighting was outlawed in Oklahoma in a statewide vote in 2002. The ban makes it a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine.
The bill by Senator Frank Shurden to reduce the penalty now goes to the state House where a vote could be as early as Friday.
